Genuine sadness and shock throughout the Killygarry community followed the sudden death of Andy McGovern of Drumoghra. A devoted family man with a strong faith, Andy was an authority on GAA matters and was a great man to remember dates, players and results. He loved the game of gaelic football and lined out for his beloved Killygarry in the full back line and also between the posts. He was on the P&T side that claimed All-Ireland interfirms glory in 1973. After hanging up his boots, he immersed himself in the promotion of the indigenous game, particularly at underage level. He derived tremendous satisfaction from the fact that his four sons donned the Killygarry colours and contributed so much to the team. His friendly face at Killygarry games will be sorely missed.
