The late Eamon McGovern of St Phelim's Place in Cavan passed away following a short illness on Monday December 22, 2008, aged 67. An exceptional defender, Eamon was prominent on Cavan Gaels teams from the mid '60s into the early '70s. The versatile Eamon was in the half back line when the SFC was garnered at Bailieborough's expense in 1965. He also collected a senior league medal three years earlier. He enjoyed a spell on the Cavan senior panel before his GAA career was cut short by illness. Guards of Honour were provided at both the removal and funeral by members of Cavan Gaels GFC and his former colleagues at The Anglo-Celt, where he was employed for nearly 50 years.
