The parish of Lavey and county Cavan lost one of its most distinguished sons when Sean F Murphy passed away in Fermoy, County Cork in October 2008. He enjoyed a distinguished career in An Garda Siochana but never forgot his roots in Lower Lavey, where he was born in 1921. Stationed at various times in counties Mayo, Donegal, Galway, Cork and Tipperary until his retirement in October 1984. He served as vice-president of Fermoy GAA for ten years
