A native of Crocknahattina, Bailieborough's Philip Clarke passed away at Cavan General Hospital on November 2, 2008. He was 80 years old. Known for his tremendous love of the outdoors, Phil was a great supporter of the GAA. He was a substitute on the Shamrocks side that collected the 1957 county SFC and encouraged his own children to line out for the local club, always offering them plenty of support from the sidelines. He organised many family outings to Clones and Croke Park and was very proud of the Shamrocks club, regularly showing up at St Anne's Park and other venues further afield to lend his backing. Phil was also a big Cavan supporter and many of his Sunday afternoons were devoted to football affairs. Bailieborough Shamrocks GFC provided a Guard of Honour at his removal.
