In July Cavan Gaels mourned the loss of Sarah Doonan, Fairview, Cavan Town. Sarah was the mother of James Doonan who starred on underage and senior teams for the Gaels, captaining the team to a senior championship victory over Mullahoran in 2003. Her late husband Hughie was also immersed in GAA, having represented both the Gaels and Cavan Harps during his playing days. His brother Willie played for the Harps and Cavan Slashers before managing the Gaels upon his return home from England.
