Eugene McCarthy, Kilconny, Belturbet - who passed away on Tuesday, September 27th, 2016 - was born in Gurteen, Swanlinbar on September 5th, 1942, the second eldest of a family of ten. As a science teacher at St Mogue's College, Bawnboy, Eugene involved himself in many extracurricular activities, including coaching gaelic football. As coach, he helped the school to numerous successes in the 1970s and '80s.
