The people of Shercock and beyond were stunned to learn of the death at a young age of former club footballer Michael Edwards, London and formerly of Annaherin. Having been born in the English capital four years earlier, Michael moved to the area with his family in 1989 and attended Knockbride NS and Bailieborough Community School. Togging out for Shercock GFC at both minor and senior levels, he was an energetic, enthusiastic and popular member of the teams he played on. Michael returned to London when he was 19 and worked there as a carpenter. Members of Shercock GFC provided a Guard of Honour as his remains were escorted from Clarke's Funeral Home to Cavan Crematorium.
