Vinny Corey has been appointed manager of Cavan football giants Gowna.

It’s a quick return to management for Corey who stepped down after two years in charge of Monaghan in August and has since been replaced by Gabriel Bannigan. The two-time Ulster SFC winning defender takes over from club legend Dermot McCabe, who is the new Westmeath manager. Another Gowna great, Mark McKeever, will be one of Corey’s selectors.

Gowna are hoping that the high-profile appointment will help them to regain the Oliver Plunkett Cup after their quest for a three-in-a-row was ended by Ramor United in this year’s semi-final.
