'Not all of them are going to come back'

Clare manager Brian Lohan during his side's warm up

Brian Lohan is resigned to losing players from his squad ahead of Clare’s Liam MacCarthy Cup defence next year.

While obviously hoping that there will be no retirements or withdrawals, the Banner boss accepts that some players won’t return in 2025.

“The big thing is we have to get our backroom team together and try to get everyone to commit as much as they can for next year,” he said in an interview with RTÉ.

“And then players as well. Players' lives obviously move on. There are changes. Fellas are in relationships, having kids, all that kind of stuff - just life, work and a lot of commitment that they have to their own lives.

"It’s such a big commitment now to be involved in an inter-county set-up.

"None of the guys we have owe us anything, but we hope they all come back. Not all of them are going to come back. We’ll just see how that pans out over the next while.

“A couple of guys leave and there’s an opportunity for younger lads to step up. We’ll be looking to bring guys into the panel as well.”
