Cork's Ben Cunningham has blasted the controversial rule which prevented senior panellist Eoin Downey from lining out in last night's Munster U20HC final.

The St Finbarr's sharpshooter, who scored 0-9 in the Rebels' 1-23 to 1-21 victory over Clare at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, said it was  “an absolute disgrace” that neither Downey nor Banner senior Adam Hogan could play because of the seven-day eligibility rule governing U20 players. The two counties will meet again in the Munster SHC on Sunday.

"The situation with Eoin Downey is an absolute disgrace," Cunningham told TG4 after the U20 decider.

"Adam Hogan is the same on the other side. The best players at our age want to be playing in these games, in the Munster final. I don't see why they can't do it. Eoin would have no problem playing today and playing again in six days' time.

"The people up there (in Croke Park) don't know what they're doing if they don't allow two players to play in a Munster final."
