RIP Joe McCarthy

(Oldest Posts First)

Sadly Kingscourt and Cavan's Joe McCarthy passed away last night at the age of 43. Man of the Match in 1991 County final at the age 18/19, went on to represent Cavan and Kingscourt for many years. A gentleman and man who spent countless countless hours working behind the scenes for the betterment of Cavan GAA. Heavily involved with the cavan u21 teams who won 4 ulsters in a row. Extremely intelligent and his knowledge of the GAA was second to none. Joe will be sadly missed by everyone in Cavan GAA circles.

Very sad day. Unbelievable how cruel life can be at times. Joe will be sadly missed by all that have had the pleasure of coming into contact with him. Had a serious knowledge of football, was an honour to of known & played alongside him

Received a text a short while ago informing me of the passing of a great friend and as I have mentioned in many posts he had a fantastic football brain and memory. I got to know Joe through what I do and I can tell you his loss to Cavan is second to none. He has left a huge legacy behind him especially with those that came to the county through the U21 panel and I am sure everyone of them to a man will be sad to see and hear off Joe's passing.
Safe journey my friend it was a pleasure knowing you Cavan loss is the next worlds gain.
R.I.P Joe

Deeply saddened to hear the news. Joe was an excellent template for young coaches in Cavan to base themselves on. A very humble and decent man.

RIP Joe.

Was shocked to hear this news about Joe, hadn't seen him in years, coached him in college back in UCD, he was a great chap back then, obviously only in his late teens but he was very mature and a great character, very popular in UCD, my sincere condolences to his family. R.I.P. Joe.
