McGrath has a great record if you go back, but has he really done much with Fermanagh these past couple if years? No progress in ulster and an all ireland quarter final appearance. . .has he still got it? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 15/07/2017 15:06:57 2016932 Link 0 |
I think i've seen enough of Mattie to realise he's not going to improve Cavan football. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 15/07/2017 15:21:09 2016934 Link 1 |
Would have to agree. .unless he picks his panel and settles on a line-up and style of play very early - before the league - then we'll see a carbon copy of this year.

Sean, I'll make a prediction now that we will be worse off this time next year. What about getting McGrath in now and cutting our losses. You seem to be showing some sort of loyalty to Mattie when he has failed badly in year one. If you had a bull and he only got a few cows in calf the whole year he'd be for the hook. I think its time Mattie goes up on the hook in the butchers win down in Cootehill. foxes_denn (Cavan) - Posts:59 - 15/07/2017 11:32:46 2016836 I am showing the man the respect he deserves he came in last November and you want him gone all ready. We should offer the job to Pete McGrath. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 15/07/2017 16:30:44 2016979 Link 0 |
Don't read if you dont want to. If you read my post you'd know I was frustrated with Hyland teams in a number of occasions and said so. Especially the losses in the back door. I suggest last yr a change would be acceptable if there was a better manager out there. There does not appear to have been. The reason I want a quick change now is for a number of reasons. 1) 2 wins all yr. 2) Relegated from league, out of ulster rd1. 3) Threw away 6 pt lead following his team talk against an injury ravaged Tipp team in Breffni park. 4) Erratic calls. Lads not playing one week start next week, lad starts one week not on panel next week. Subbing subs, taking lads off inside 15 mins, making full compliment of subs well before end of games meaning we finished with 14. 5) playing more defensive than any previous manager despite saying he was going to attack. 6) Not kick out strategy or at least none that works. 7) Team not fit 8) The biggest one to last, he has shown no hints of improvement and instead had regressed the team to the point that I reckon we will end in Div3 again if he's in charge next year. That's my opinion, read it or don't read it, doesn't bother me.

You seem to have revealed yourself with that post, welcome back to the forum. I'm surprised you haven't yet brought up New York and the intercontinental cup. I love how people like you keep repeating that we got to a 1/4 by beating London, rather than saying more accurately that we lost to a much better kerry in the 1/4. Was London the only team we played that year? Is it Terry's fault that we walked over London on the way to meeting kerry? If you don't see a rise from the bottom of Div 3 to Div 1 as progress than the likes of you don't deserve success. We were blessed to have Terry as I wouldn't wish that job on my worst enemy JamsieMac (Cavan) - Posts: 482 - 15/07/2017 16:58:21 2017000 Link 0 |
We should offer the job to Pete McGrath. It might improve things. Temporarily. But as I've said before, the problem with football in the county is a systemic one going right down to grassroots level. McGleenan has had a full season and managed a paltry 2 wins all year. Just listen to his interviews after games. Baffling. Time to go. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts:6 - 15/07/2017 16:30:44 2016979 Yes his interviews don't tell the story I think maybe he was being polite to those he is involved with. He got a full season to be honest Cavan_Shambles I expected more from you but it's life. You say he had a full season NOT TRUE he came to Cavan last November. It's showing total disrespect to the man give him a chance if he fails at least you Cavan people will have at least shown him the respect by giving him a chance to turn things around. He deserves it. Now if the circumstances are the same this time next year I will not be able to defend him. I hope he makes big changes and I hope he does not read names that are bantered about on this forum that should be playing for Cavan for so many of them are poor junior quality club player's. The championship starts next week he can watch many matches and maybe come up with his own team and then one can mouth all one likes if it goes belly up. After 5 years Terry left us with no regular Full back, centre half back , centre forward or full forward. 5 years and no player could make any of these positions his own due to management chopping and changing. Yeah we were blessed alright. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 15/07/2017 17:48:04 2017029 Link 0 |
Would you not put that down to the players themselves for not staking a claim? None of them convinced me let alone convince Terry

Then it's the players who are not good enough not the manager. That what your saying?

I wish him a speedy recovery might make a good captain when fit. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 15/07/2017 21:22:26 2017158 Link 0 |
No disrespect, but when a lot of the team will be playing junior and intermediate championships, how can you expect your County team to cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 17/07/2017 09:32:07 2017881 Link 0 |
Thats the reality though, and the other reality is that 3 weeks ago Feile was held in Cavan, and not one Cavan Club progressed to the winners section of the competition, yet teams from Clare, Tipperary, Waterford, all hurling Counties, all progressed. aceofspades (Cavan) - Posts: 257 - 17/07/2017 12:28:24 2018047 Link 0 |
