Kingscourt Stars picked up their first victory in the 2024 Cavan senior football championship by handing Killygarry a 2-12 to 1-11 defeat at Kingspan Breffni.
After snatching a late draw with holders Gowna in the opening round last weekend, the Meath border men earned themselves both points here as Sean Burke’s goal midway through the first-half helped propel them towards a 1-6 to 1-4 half-time lead.
Burke’s strike had helped to cancel out Cian Keaney’s goal earlier and, in the second-half, Darragh Lovett would help bring Killygarry level before last year’s runners up bagged an Odhrán Cunningham goal at a crucial stage.
From there, the points of Jordan Morris (2), Michael McKeon (2) and Padraig Faulkner did the trick for the town side as they ran out four-point winners in the end.
Elsewhere, 2020 champions Crosserlough steamrolled Laragh United with a 2-18 to 0-6 victory in Mullagh, where the goals came from Peter Smith and Matthew Costello, to make it two wins from two in the Oliver Plunkett Cup race.
