Down Senior Camogie star Catherine McGourty says that the team’s ambition to develop and thrive is being matched by their off the field activities.

And McGourty says the team is now being taken more seriously due to their progress in recent seasons.

In 2020 Down landed the All Ireland intermediate championship, the Jack McGrath Cup.

Since then the side has been developing at senior level.

This year Down Camogs have two teams competing, the seniors in division 1B and the juniors in division 3B.

The seniors begin their league campaign on Saturday 18th February away to their neighbouring rivals Antrim while the junior team will face Clare on Saturday 25th February.

Last week they unveiled their new sponsorship deal with Down based Engineering company CM Precision Components Ltd.

Ballycran and Down star, Catherine McGourty said: “It’s great to have the financial backing from a county Down company. Over the past couple of years we’ve been taken a bit more seriously after winning the Intermediate All Ireland Championship and now competing at Senior level people look at us seriously and we’re delighted that CM Precision have come on board with us and we are proud to have his sponsor on the front of our jerseys”.

CM Precision Components Ltd is a leading supplier of precision engineered components within the UK and Ireland. With over 30 years of experience, they pride themselves on quality components. CM precision offer a range of services from a unique order to a production run incorporating “Kan-Ban” stock control.

At the launch of the sponsorship at CM Precision HQ in Downpatrick, Director Kieran Cooper said, “We have always prided ourselves on taking an active part in our community and this sponsorship for us is a major step forward. We are delighted to have this opportunity to promote ourselves, our town and our county. It is wonderful to see these young ladies, who are competing at the highest level of their sport and we are urging everybody in the county to come out and support them this season”.
