Tipperary football star Colin O’Riordan has signed a one-year contract extension with AFL side Sydney Swans.

Having signed a rookie contract with the Swans in 2015, O’Riordan made his AFL debut in 2018 and is now set to remain at the club until the end of the 2022 season at least.

So far, the 25-year-old had made 29 appearances for the Swans and played six games in the AFL last season. He also a star in the in the club’s VFL side and finished runner up in the VFL Player of the Year. 

Sydney Swans' executive general manager Charlie Gardiner announced the deal as part of a trio of contract extensions on Thursday.

“O’Riordan is a valued presence both on and off the field at the club,” he said.

“Despite battling injury this year his character never wavered as an exceptional person and valued teammate, and this was evident when he was awarded the 2021 Barry Round Best Clubman. We look forward to seeing what the Irish defender can do in 2022.”
