St Brigid’s claimed their 20th Roscommon senior football championship title after edging out rivals Padraig Pearses 1-25 to 2-16 in an extra-time thriller at Dr Hyde Park.

Conor Hand starred for the champions, who recovered from a slow start to trail by just a point at half-time, 0-9 to 0-8, before the sides remained inseparable at the end of normal time.

Hand’s late two-pointer looked to have sealed victory, only for substitute Tom Butler to produce a stunning two-point score in the dying seconds to force extra-time.

Brigid’s took control in the additional period as Hand struck a crucial goal, with Charlie O’Carroll and Shane Cunnane adding key two-pointers to put the result beyond doubt despite a late Declan Kenny penalty.

The victory sees Brigid’s retain the Fahey Cup for the first time since 2017, and Damien Mulligan’s side will now turn their attention to defending their Connacht crown against Sligo champions St Mary’s.
