An Tóchar set-up Wicklow SFC final date with Blessington

An Tóchar will play Blessington in the Wicklow senior football championship final after edging out Arklow Geraldines-Ballymoney by 1-16 to 3-9 in Aughrim this afternoon.

John Paul Nolan’s point in the third minute of injury-time proved the difference between the sides, as the men from Roundwood left themselves a win away from their club’s first SFC title in 31 years.

Having fallen 0-5 to 0-0 behind after 11 minutes, goals from Sean Hurley and Darragh Fitzgerald would surge Arklow towards a 2-3 to 0-8 lead come half-time.

Points from Eanna Nolan and John Paul Nolan steered An Tóchar back in front early in the restart before they conceded a third goal which saw Tiernan Gahan supplying the finish.

The victors responded with a goal of their own through John Paul Nolan and got a huge two-pointer from Oisin Cullen down the home stretch ahead of the former nailing a two-point free to level things in the 59th and the same player would grab the winner four minutes later.

It means that An Tóchar now take on Blessington in the county final after they dethroned Baltinglass with a 1-17 to 1-15 victory in Aughrim on Saturday.

Blessington trailed by 1-10 to 1-6 at half-time before the scores of Craig Maguire and Anto McLoughlin helped to bring them all square with the holders.

Jack Hardy sailed over a crucial two-pointer for his team down the home stretch before the scores of McLoughlin and Dan Silke Fetherston cemented the win.
