Aidan O’Shea says he’s not worrying himself right now over whether he’ll be part of Mayo’s senior football squad in 2027.

Having finally got his hands on the Sam Maguire Cup with the Westerners last month, O’Shea returned to action with Breaffy this afternoon in the Mayo senior football championship against Belmullet.

The visitors came away from Tallagh with a 0-15 to 1-8 victory to make it two wins from two in the championship, with TG4 naming O’Shea ‘Man of the Match’ for his performance, while the day's other game in the Paddy Moclair Cup race saw Ballintubber defeat Mayo Gaels by 1-23 to 2-13.

The Irish language broadcaster spoke with the eight-time Connacht SFC winner after the game and asked him whether he had started to ponder his inter-county future after Andy Moran’s men ended their county’s 75-year wait for All-Ireland SFC glory.

“No, no, it’s a while away yet,” the 36-year-old said.

“No doubt Andy and the boys will be having a chat with me, and we’ll see what’s to come.

“But look, enjoy these two wins, get the body right, and if I’m to be there in 2027, I am not going to worry about it right now.”

The three-time All-Star added that he is delighted to be back on club duty after Mayo’s historic championship campaign:

“Obviously, there’s a great buzz about Mayo football at the moment after winning. You could see the crowds here today, the car park was full. It’s massive.

“Just to get back to the boys, having not obviously played a lot of club football all year, and enjoy it, it’s huge.

“I haven’t played a huge amount over the last few weeks. I was delighted to get back out on the field and play games.”
