How Clifford became Kerry's all-time leading championship scorer

David Clifford’s 15th-minute goal in today’s All-Ireland SFC final against Mayo makes him Kerry’s all-time leading championship scorer.
The Fossa ace went into the game needing three points to eclipse Colm Cooper at the top of the Kingdom's summer scoring charts and already had two points on the board when collecting a handpass from Seanie O’Shea, sidestepping Jack Livingstone to strike left-footed to an empty net at the Davin End, making the score 1-4 to 0-1.
The goal also sees Clifford equal Mikey Sheehy’s goalscoring record for Kerry – his 29th championship major arriving on the biggest stage.
Kerry led by seven points shortly after Clifford’s record-breaking major but Mayo battled back to within one by the time the half-time hooter sounded in an absorbing contest.
The day would end in disappointment for Clifford (1-6) and his team-mates as Mayo produced a second-half masterclass to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time in 75 years.
