Former Clare ace Podge Collins says “strength and depth” differentiates them from the remaining other teams in the Liam MacCarthy Cup race.

The Treaty men came out on top in a thrilling finish at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last Sunday to edge hosts Cork by a point and claim their seventh Munster senior hurling championship title in eight years.

Speaking on GAA+'s The View programme, Collins said that the sheer depth of talent within John Kiely’s squad makes them favourites to capture another All-Ireland crown next month.

“Adam English is in my opinion, one of the best hurlers in the country, and he's not starting. And I was like, is he injured? Is he not?”

He continued: “Shane O'Brien wasn't named to start during the week, and I had him with Mary I. And he's just phenomenal. A phenomenal ball winner.

“His touch there, the high ball coming out of the sky in the first half, touched it down over the bar like a class hurler.”

The former Banner star added: “You've Mike Casey on the bench, Tom Morrissey on the bench. David Reidy on the bench. So they're favourites for the All-Ireland and probably rightfully so.”
