Monaghan manager Gabriel Bannigan has confirmed that rising Farney star Bobby McCaul’s season is over after suffering an ACL injury for the second time.
The Aughnamullen clubman sustained the injury after coming off the bench in Monaghan’s one-point defeat to Mayo in Clones last Sunday.
McCaul hit 1-1, including a fantastic goal, after his introduction as the home side dwindled their deficit from a dozen points down to the minimum.
The injury picked up by McCaul would see him having to be stretchered off in the 58th minute at St Tiernach’s Park and his manager has since confirmed that it’s same dreaded ACL tear he suffered in last year’s Ulster U20 championship.
“He’s made of bloody good stuff, he’ll be back,” Bannigan is quoted saying by The42.ie. “He’s a clubman of mine, from a brilliant family. His dad would have played for years with me. He has a big future ahead of him.”
The Farney men are set to host Roscommon in Round 2B of the All-Ireland SFC on Saturday week, with the winners progressing through to Round 3 and the losers eliminated from the championship.
