Dublin are through to the Leinster senior football championship final after handing holders Louth a 0-20 to 0-10 defeat in Portlaoise this evening.

Cormac Costello, who was a late change for the injured Con O’Callaghan, starred for the capital men with 0-10 over the 70 minutes as they set-up a Delaney Cup decider date with either Kildare or Westmeath on May 17th.

Having been pushed all the way by Wicklow last time out, the Dubs put together a much-improved performance here with early scores from Paddy Small and Nathan Doran settling them in as they ran up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead.

Costello’s first score of the evening would arrive via a 17th minute free and more scores from the ‘Man of the Match’, Brian Howard and Charlie Morrow sent Dublin in with a 0-8 to 0-6 half-time advantage.

Small and Sam Mulroy traded frees during the opening 10 minutes of the restart and Emmett Carolan erased another from Costello to keep the margin at two prior to Louth experiencing a scoring drought which spanned more than 20 minutes.

Costello would register six scores, including a two-pointer, during that period as the 63-time champions converted their dominance on the scoreboard to coast 11 points clear.

Dara McDonnell ended the drought for the Wee County before Luke Breathnach, who came on for the injured Small, and Kieran McArdle traded points towards the end.
