Cavan will find out this weekend if they will be in the Sam Maguire Cup or Tailteann Cup.
The Breffni County’s Sam Maguire Cup status is suddenly in jeopardy following surprise provincial quarter-final wins for Westmeath and Down over Meath and Donegal respectively. Despite finishing sixth in Division 2 of the Allianz League, Dermot McCabe’s charges will be demoted to the Tailteann Cup if Westmeath and Down both win their provincial semi-finals against Kildare and Armagh on Sunday.
Depending on this weekend’s results, the 16th team in the Tailteann Cup will either be Westmeath, Down or Cavan, with a Round 1 home tie against Leitrim awaiting them either on the weekend of May 9/10 or May 15/16.
