John Kiely was heartened by Limerick’s never-say-die attitude in their narrow Munster SHC defeat to Cork.

Despite losing Cian Lynch to a 51st minute red car for an off-the-ball incident, the Treaty men pushed the Rebels all the way before an attendance of over 43,000 at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

"It is hard, but at the same time I don't think Cork really got a march on us afterwards," the Limerick manager told RTÉ.

"Our response, as is quite typical when it happens, was very solid. We pulled ourselves back into the game, took the lead. I think our response was superb at the time."

Kiely expects Limerick to take a lot of encouragement from the performance.

"Tremendous effort from our guys, really proud of that performance to be honest with you," he continued.

"It was right on the money really. It was just a few small things that prevented us from getting the win. Maybe being a small bit more efficient in front of goal was definitely one of the factors.

"We'll regroup this week. It was only game one of four. It's not like it was a poor performance. It was a really good one. If we can reproduce that throughout the round-robin we're going to give ourselves opportunities and chances to win matches."
