Pat Spillane expects Galway to be leading contenders for the Sam Maguire this year.

The four-in-a-row Connacht champions impressed in a number of their Allianz Football League games, prompting Spillane to think they are up there with Kerry and Donegal in the All-Ireland reckoning.

“I think he (Padraic Joyce) has a better 15 this year, which makes them more capable of winning an All-Ireland. Their attacking play is much quicker, with a much higher tempo,” the Kerry legend wrote in the Sunday World.

“Galway are going for five provincial titles in-a-row, and I think they’ll achieve that.

“One result, and it wasn’t a victory, made me feel this is a serious Galway outfit. They came from 12 points down with just over 20 minutes left to draw with Kerry in Tralee. I think they’re better than previous years.”
