Conor Cleary scored this sensational 14th minute goal as Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar won their maiden Hogan Cup at Croke Park yesterday.

There were shades of Owen Mulligan's iconic goal for Tyrone against Dublin in the 2005 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final at the same venue when the wing forward jinked his way past Tralee CBS duo Eoin O'Flaherty and Michael Enright before firing to the roof of the net.

That helped Coláiste Mhuire to a 2-5 to 0-4 lead, but their Kerry opponents came storming back to take the lead in the second half before late points from Finn Higgins and Will Scahill secured a dramatic 3-11 to 1-16 victory for the school where Br Thomas Hogan - after whom the Hogan Cup is named - taught.

Man of the match Michael Moloney said of the winners' strong finish on TG4: “We have been doing that all year; we never panic. We are always creating scenarios in training where we are having to finish strongly. This is a huge win for Mullingar; it’s historic and we are going to celebrate."
