Wexford manager Keith Rossier says his side have work to do before the championship’s start next month.
The Slayneysiders’ boss was speaking after his side’s 0-26 to 1-20 defeat at the hands of Clare on Sunday at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg, Ennis, where the visitors’ late rally saw them falling three points short in the end.
The result now leaves Dublin in pole position for promotion from Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League heading into the final round of games the weekend after next and Rossiter admits that his team weren’t good enough against the now promoted Banner men on the day.
"The overall assessment is [one of] disappointment. I think we were very flat for a lot of it. Gave glimpses of what we can do which is great,” he told RTE Sport afterwards.
"But the handling of the ball, the giving away of the ball in possession - uncontested, at times, which is worse again.
"So, our hurling was a little bit off so we've a bit of work to do. I said from day one, the league for me is all about prep for championship. We might have to put up with 1B again next year - and for however long it takes to come out of it. Because it's not easy to get out of it.
"And you get plenty of good games in it. The teams in 1B are good sides. Any given day, you're going to get plenty of match and plenty of physicality.
"I'm happy with the prep our lads are after getting for championship so far. I'm sure that Kildare are going to come down all guns blazing to lay down a marker against us in the league as well. So another good challenge in two weeks’ time and roll on the championship four weeks later."
