Meath bounced back from last weekend’s loss to Cork in impressive fashion this evening as they saw off Kildare by 1-21 to 0-10 in Newbridge.

The comprehensive victory moves Robbie Brennan’s men to the top of the Allianz Football League Division 2 table ahead of tomorrow’s crunch between the unbeaten Rebels and Derry at Celtic Park (1pm).

The Royals proved too strong for their neighbours in this evening’s fifth round clash at Cedral St Conleth's Park, where Jordan Morris’s goal moved them into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead in the 11th minute ahead of unanswered scores from Jack O’Connor, Eoghan Frayne and Morris putting them nine to the good.

Darragh Kirwan and Brian McLoughlin got back some sorely needed two-pointers for the Lilywhites, but they’d still go in at the break down by 1-9 to 0-5 and their opponents didn’t let up in the second-half.

After a couple of Ben Loakman frees got the hosts to back within five, scores from Charlie O’Connor, Keith Curtis and Ruairi Kinsella at the other end went unanswered with ‘Man of the Match’ Morris completing his 1-5 tally down the home stretch ahead of a couple of long-distance effort from ‘keeper Sean Brennan sailing over Kildare’s crossbar to round off the 14-point win for Meath.

In Dungannon, Tyrone recorded an important 0-28 to 2-13 win against Louth to move themselves three points clear of the relegation zone with two rounds remaining.

Having lost out to Louth last weekend, Malachy O’Rourke’s side put in an improved performance minus the services of ace attacker Darragh Canavan who is set spend the next month in Australia.

The Red Hands were 0-8 to 0-4 to the good when they let in a Jack McEvoy goal in the 25th minute and Marcas Dalton’s point would square things up ahead of Ruairi Canavan (free), Brian Kennedy (two-pointer) and Niall Devlin sending over scores at the other end which gave Tyrone a 0-12 to 1-7 lead at the break.

The first 15 minutes of the second-half would see the Ulster side outscoring their opponents by 0-8 to 0-2 and Darren McCurry came off the bench after that to add three points to the home side’s tally.

Michael McKernan and Ruairi McCullagh shot over points to put a seal on Tyrone’s victory ahead of Darragh Flynn grabbing a consolation goal at the end of the Faithful men’s fifth straight Division 2 defeat.

Meanwhile, Louth plunged Cavan closer to the drop down to Division 3 with a comprehensive 1-22 to 1-12 win at Kingspan Breffni.

The Leinster champions bossed the home side during the first-half, running up a 0-12 to 0-4 lead before they orchestrated a brilliant from the back which saw Ciaran Downey finishing soccer-style past Liam Brady to the Breffni men’s net.

The visitors went in at the break up by 1-16 to 0-6 and kept foot in the throttle as they hit the first five points of the restart before substitute Ciaran Brady palmed in Cavan’s goal in the 50th minute.

Paddy Lynch and Gearoid McKiernan shot over further scores for Dermot McCabe’s side as the game ticked into its closing 10 minutes, but there’s be no overcoming their heavy deficit as Louth won out by double digits to move up to six points on the table while Cavan remain second from bottom with two points and as many rounds remaining.
