Kerry proved too strong for Dublin this evening as they picked up their second win of the Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign.
It finished 1-16 to 1-10 at Croke Park, where 25,027 spectators were in attendance, with the All-Ireland champions in cruise control for large portions of the game before eventually handing the Dubs their third defeat in four rounds.
Sean O’Shea and David Clifford kicked some early two-pointers to move the Kingdom towards a 0-5 to 0-2 lead and the scores of Tony Brosnan, Graham O’Sullivan and Cillian Trant had six between the sides 10 minutes before half-time.
A Clifford free would be outweighed by Ciaran Kilkenny’s two-pointer at the other end, with Dublin captain Con O’Callaghan trimming his side’s deficit to 0-9 to 0-6 just before the break.
Kerry boss Jack O’Connor introduced Paul Murphy and Paudie Clifford to the fray for the second-half, with the latter sending over a 54th minute point before Brosnan fired to the capital men's net three minutes later.
Tom O’Sullivan’s score after that made it 1-13 to 0-8 in favour of the holders and, while Ger Brennan's side would get a quick 1-2 thanks to a Paddy Small two-pointer being backed up by a Peadar O Cofaigh Byrne goal that brought the margin back down to three, Kerry steadied the ship with another O’Sullivan point ahead of O’Shea rounding off their tally with a late two-pointer that put a seal on their first league win against their old rivals at headquarters since 2017.
