Cormac Byrne’s point in the fourth minute of injury-time saw Laois inflict Kerry with their first defeat of the Allianz Hurling League Division 2 campaign and pick up their third win in the process.
It finished 1-18 to 1-17 at Laois Hire O'Moore Park, where Oisin Maunsell’s late goal looked to have rescued a draw for the visitors before Byrne had the final say.
The points of Jordan Conway and Ronan Walsh (free) helped Kerry to hold a 0-9 to 0-8 lead at the halfway stage and the sides would be level five times in the second-half prior Laois moving three ahead and then striking the game’s first goal via a Podge Delaney penalty in the 65th minute.
The Kingdom rallied and saw another Walsh free being backed up by Maunsell’s goal ahead of Byrne’s late intervention for the hosts to leapfrog their opponents in the Division 2 table.
In Division 3, Donegal recorded their third straight win by seeing off Armagh on a 1-18 to 1-9 scoreline in Letterkenny while Roscommon also have maximum points from three outings after registering a 0-14 to 0-11 win in Louth and Tyrone came out on top in their derby clash with Fermanagh in Enniskillen (2-18 to 1-17).
Sligo remain on course for promotion from Division 4 after a resounding 2-34 to 0-3 win against Warwickshire in Tubbercurry, with Cavan picking up their second victory of the campaign by seeing off Lancashire (2-20 to 2-15) at Kingspan Breffni and Leitrim doing likewise by condemning Monaghan to their third defeat on a 1-19 to 1-11 scoreline in Inniskeen.
