Jack O’Connor cut a frustrated figure after Kerry relinquished an 11-point lead against Galway at a rain-lashed Austin Stack Park last Saturday evening.
The All-Ireland champions had to settle for a share of the spoils after a late Galway comeback culminated in Shane McGrath firing an equalising two-pointer. While giving credit to the Tribesmen, O’Connor felt turnovers and a crucial refereeing decision cost his side the win.
“It was disappointing because there was one stage in the second half when we were 12 points up, so you would think we would see it home,” the Kerry boss said.
“We turned over a couple of balls that were crucial. The way Paul (Faloon) was reffing it, he was leaving a bit of contact go.
“We felt there was a foul on the one that led to their goal, the one on Tony (Brosnan) when it looked like his arm was pulled and he dropped the ball.
“Anyway, having said that, full credit to Galway, they fought hard and they kept at it and in the end, we could have lost the game. They levelled it with a minute to go and the next kick-out was to be important. We had one last chance down the other end to win but it was not to be.”
