Stritch the hero as Clare sink Cork late to reach Munster U20HC decider

Clare will play Tipperary in the Munster U20 hurling championship final after making their goals count in a 2-15 to 0-20 win against Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh yesterday evening.

In the end, it was a late goal from Diarmuid Stritch which made the difference for the Banner men as they marched on to a provincial final date with holders Tipp this coming Wednesday evening at the TUS Gaelic Grounds (7.30pm).

Cork had been the better side in the first-half of this last four clash, as they’d build up a 0-11 to 0-7 lead before Sean Boyce grabbed Clare’s first goal in the 23rd minute.

The Rebels shot over points via Barry O’Flynn and Barry Walsh (free) in response to take in a 0-13 to 1-8 lead at the half and, despite falling behind early in the restart, the home side would move into the lead again and push it out to four with a quarter of an hour to go.

However, Fred Hegarty seventh free and a Harry Doherty halved the deficit for Clare ahead of Michael Collins setting up Clonlara ace Stritch for what proved the winning goal in the 59th minute.
