There are fresh reports from Australia that the International Rules series could return in 2025.
The AFL website is reporting that officials from both the AFL and GAA met last month, sparking hopes that the series may return after an eight-year hiatus. The report also states that AFL clubs' continued interest in top Irish talent was discussed.
“The League has looked at ways the International Rules series, combining the AFL and Gaelic competitions, could have a place back in the game through the year,” it read.
“It took another step forward by meeting with officials from the GAA in Grand Final week.”
Former GAA president Liam McCarthy ruled out a return of the series last year on the basis that it would be difficult to find a slot in the GAA calendar with the new split-season.
