Karl Lacey’s future as Kilcoo manager is unclear following last Sunday’s last-gasp Ulster Club SFC quarter-final defeat to Scotstown.

The 2012 Donegal All-Ireland winning centre back took charge of the Magpies this year and led them to their 11th Down SFC title in 12 years last month. But their hopes of replicating their 2022 All-Ireland success were ended prematurely by Rory Beggan’s late winning free at Páirc Esler.

“There’s different people involved in that conversation - it is not my decision,” Lacey – who has been heavily linked with a role in new Donegal manager Jim McGuinness’ backroom team – told reporters.

“All I can say at this moment in time is they are an unbelievable bunch, it is an unbelievable club. It is a very special club.

“They’ve looked after me really well. There’s friendships and relationships built there for life. It will always be a club that’s close to my heart now in terms of the way they’ve welcomed me in.

“I really enjoyed my time there and I enjoyed working with the talent that’s there. I don’t know what the future is going to hold.”
