Today marks 20 years to the day since Tyrone’s maiden Sam Maguire Cup triumph.

Mickey Harte’s men defeated neighbours Armagh on a 0-12 to 0-9 scoreline at Croke Park to write themselves into the history books as their county’s first All-Ireland SFC winning side.

79,391 fans packed into Croker for the all-Ulster decider that saw the Red Hands on top in the first-half, taking in a 0-8 to 0-4 half-time lead, before Armagh narrowed the gap and saw Steven McDonnell denied a goal with two minutes to go in normal time by a sensational Conor Gormley block.

Jubilant fans flooded on to the pitch after the final whistle while team captain Peter Canavan’s winning speech saw him dedicating the victory to every Tyrone team he’d played on up to that point.
