Éire Óg kept their bid for a third consecutive Clare senior football championship title alive thanks to a 0-15 to 1-11 victory against St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield after extra time at Cusack Park.
The holders had been in command after the opening half-hour in Ennis, leading 0-8 to 0-4, but their counterparts stayed in the battle throughout the second-half and James Curran’s late goal would end up forcing extra time.
The teams couldn’t be separated at the end of first-half extra time (0-14 to 1-11) and, in the end, it was Mark McInerney’s point that proved the winner for Éire Óg as they survived to advance towards another semi-final.
Earlier in the day, 2020 champions Kilmurry-Ibrickane were shown the exit door after slumping to a 1-7 to 0-9 defeat at the hands of Cratloe.
Kilmurry had been 0-4 to 0-3 up when Diarmuid Ryan fired in the crucial goal for Cratloe on the eve of half-time as they’d go on to hold out for a one-point victory and berth in the last four of the Jack Daly Cup race.
