Galway picked up their third win in the Leinster senior hurling championship by dismantling Antrim on a 5-29 to 1-22 scoreline at Pearse Stadium.

In what was the first ever meeting between the two sides in the eastern province, Antrim made the perfect start to the game with a converted penalty from Conal Cunning two minutes in.

However, Henry Shefflin’s charges soon got motoring afterwards and two goals form full-forward Conor Whelan would send them towards a commanding 2-15 to 1-7 lead at the break.

The Glensmen couldn’t stop the onslaught after the turnaround as the hosts hit the first three points of the restart before Kevin Cooney fired in their third goal.

Conor Cooney pulled off some good work to set-up Tom Monaghan for the Tribesmen’s fourth goal prior to Liam Collins coming off the bench and tucking away their fifth major.

Next Sunday fifth round clashes see Galway heading for the capital to take on Dublin, while Antrim head for Mullingar for a bottom of the table clash with Westmeath. Both games throw-in at 2pm.
