Galway’s 2017 All-Ireland SHC winning captain David Burke has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The long-serving St Thomas’ clubman sustained the dreaded injury during a training session last Thursday. Speaking to Galway Bay FM after his side’s emphatic Allianz League victory over Westmeath yesterday, Henry Shefflin described the news as “devastating” for Burke.

“It’s devastating for him and his family. We’ve lost a serious leader,” the Galway manager lamented.

“It’s very, very disappointing. These couple of days are devastating for Davy because he looks forward to playing championship and that’s where he wants to play.”
