The Nire landed their third Waterford senior football championship crown in six years after edging out Rathgormack by 1-7 to 0-9 at Fraher Field this afternoon.
Aaron Ryan’s early second-half goal proved decisive for the now 10-time champions after the sides had been level on 0-4 apiece at the halfway stage in Dungarvan.
Dermot Ryan’s free was what sent the would-be winners in level at the break and Aaron Ryan’s strike gave them a foothold after Conor Gleeson had kicked the first point of the restart.
Gleeson’s fellow Deise hurling team mate Jamie Barron would see a black card in the late stages but The Nire still managed to hang on for the one-point victory and their first SFC triumph since 2018.
