A brace of second-half goals proved decisive as Belmullet upset the pre-match odds to book a place in the Mayo SFC semi-finals.

Fionnan Ryan and Ryan O'Donoghue both found the net in the 36th and 53rd minutes respectively as Damien Mulligan's men sent the 2018 and 2020 beaten finalists crashing out of the Moclair Cup at the quarter-final stage on a 2-5 to 0-8 scoreline in Ballina this afternoon. Mayo star O'Donoghue fired 1-3 for Belmullet, who proved that their groupstage win over holders Knockmore was no flash in the pan.

Ahead 0-3 to 0-2 at the end of a low scoring first-half, Breaffy looked the most likely winners but Ryan and his namesake O'Donoghue decided the issue with two brilliant finishes after the restart.

Also today, Garrymore secured the last remaining semi-final slot thanks to a 1-14 to 0-13 victory against Castlebar Mitchels in Claremorris.
