Meath 2-11 Armagh 0-7
Anton O’Neill got his senior intercounty managerial career off to a winning start with this ten point victory over Armagh in the opening round of the National Camogie League Division 2 played at Meath Centre of Excellence Dunganny.
The home side were first to settle and had points on the board from Aoife Carey, Emma Regan and Ella O’Brien inside the opening ten minutes. Armagh responded with a brace from Sinead Quinn and Rachel Merry. Meath closed out the opening 30 with scores from Maeve Clince and Aoibhin Lally to go to the half time huddle 0-5 to 0-2 in front.
O’Neill’s charges extended that lead in the early stages of the second half with points from Ciara Foley and Amy Gaffney either side of a Clince goal. Armagh to their credit rose to the challenge and outscored the home side 0-5 to 0-1 between the 10th and 20th minute with fine points from Sinead Quinn, Megan O’callaghan, Merry (2) and Niamh Forker.
Meath dominated the remainder of the game. Substitute’s Grace Connolly and Isabel O’Connor and Aedin Slattery raised white flags while O’Connor was on hand to force the ball over the Armagh line for goal number 2.
Next up for Meath is a trip to Kerry while Armagh host Carlow.
