Wexford 3-7 Meath 0-14

A goal from the last play of the game from hat trick hero Tom Funge stunned Meath and the home support as Wexford advanced to the Leinster MFC quarter final with this two point win at Ashbourne. PHOTOS

The visitors dominated the opening half. Two outstanding goals from Funge had Wexford 2-2 to 0-4 in front at the break.

With 15 minutes gone in the second half Wexford were in front by six, 2-6 to 0-, and the home side were struggling.

Three points in a row from Cormac Nugent brought Meath back into the game. Now with their tails up the Royals were dominating. Further scores from Pat Cawley, Nugent and Adam Ducie levelled the game and on the 30th minute Patrick Yourell sent over what most supporters thought was the winner.

Wexford had other ideas and after keeping possession for over a minute the ball eventually reached midfielder Funge who finished to the Meath net and seal a memorable victory for Kevin Morris’ charges.
