Rosemount manager Benny O'Brien is adamant form will go out the window when they clash with local rivals Maryland in this weekend's SFC opener.

The sides meet in Athlone on Saturday evening in a clash that is sure to attract a large crowd to the South Westmeath venue.

And O'Brien stressed to the Westmeath Independent that when its a local derby, anything is possible on the day.

"Any time you're involved in a derby game it's likely to be tight," said O'Brien. "There's a lot of pride at stake and without a doubt, both sides will be going all out to win this game. The main body of this year's squad has remained the same from last year.

"Our league campaign went okay, but we are hoping to kick on from there. We are expecting a very tough game against Maryland, they have some nice footballers, but we also have exceptional talent throughout our starting XV.

"Every club manager wants to win their opening game in the championship because it gives the entire squad a pep in their step. We'll be doing everything in our power to be on the right side of the result on Saturday evening."
