Austin Gleeson was in top scoring form as Mount Sion qualifed for the quarter-finals of the Waterford SHC at An Rinn's expense yesterday.
Lining out at full-forward, the 2016 Hurler of the Year finished with a personal tally of 0-13 in a narrow 0-21 to 2-13 victory for the city outfit in Dungarvan. The sides were deadlocked at 0-8 apiece at the break before Gleeson's eight effort put Sion in front for the first time on the 35th minute.
Sion built up five-point lead by the 45th minute but a brace of goals from the Breathnach brothers, Donie and Christie, made for a nervy finish for the winners.
Extra-time was needed to decide the other three play-off games as a Gavin O'Brien inspired Roanmore came through a titantic battle with Fourmilewater - 1-22 to 3-15.
In the third part of a triple-header at Fraher Field on Sunday, Dungarvan eventually overcame Lismore (2-23 to 2-20) thanks to a flurry of late goals scored by Gavin Power and Aaron Donnelly.
Meanwhile, Tallow booked their last eight ticket when beating Ballyduff Upper on a 3-22 to 1-27 scoreline after extra-time in Lismore on Saturday evening.
