Tyrone’s Conall McCann believes that despite the number of absentees that they have there is still massive competition for places in the team.
McCann is one of a number of players who has shown great form early in the year, while the likes of Ronan O’Neill and Kyle Coney are also impressing at the moment.
On Saturday, Tyrone face Monaghan in the Dr McKenna Cup final and McCann feels that it is a great chance for players to shine ahead of the opening round of the league next week.
"It's good to see players getting game time ahead of the league, which will be fiercely competitive," McCann told the Belfast Telegraph.
"I think it is worth pointing out that for some players the McKenna Cup is extremely important in that it represents their chance to seal a place on a more regular basis.
"This might be the only time they will see action at inter-county level, and you can't blame them for wanting to make the most of their opportunity at this particular time."
