The Tyrone senior football championship kicks off this weekend and for one club, it marks an incredible journey.

Tattyreagh will face Edendork in the SFC this Saturday. No big news there really, but the fact that just two years ago, the former were playing in the junior football championship is of great significance.

Back to back county title wins in the junior and intermediate grades sees Tattyreagh dine at the top table of Tyrone football.

Their manager Stephen McHugh revealed to the Ulster Herald that despite having a poor league campaign, they know what it takes to win a championship match.

“I imagine some people thought we’d get hammered week-in, week-out but we’ve put it up to a lot of teams,” McHugh reflected on their league performances.

“The club can take a lot of positives from the year so far. The lads are young and they are learning. It’s been tough and unforgiving, you don’t get away with mistakes in Division One.”

He added: “We’ve an awful lot of championship experience but the likes of Niall Morgan and Darren McCurry have played in massive games in Croke Park. We’ll still give it our all and see where it takes us.”
