This Sunday, Mickey Harte will lead a Tyrone side out in a 16th All-Ireland semi final at club, minor, under-21 and senior level.
It is a remarkable statistic for the veteran Tyrone manager as he looks to get the better of Kerry on this occasion.
Harte’s record in All-Ireland semi-finals reads: eight wins, six losses and a draw (the latter against Kerry in the minor semi-final in 1997).
Speaking to the Ulster Herald, Harte admitted that it was never easy reaching the last four of an All-Ireland championship, but once there you have to make the most of that opportunity.
“It is not easy to get to All-Ireland semi-finals and I’ve been blessed to have reached a number of them,” said Harte.
“You have to appreciate them because there’s no guarantee that you’ll ever reach another. We have poor outcome in a number of those matches, so we know what it’s like to win and lose at that stage. Winning is a much better place to be.”
