Micheál Donoghue was delighted with the spirit shown by his Galway team in Saturday's Walsh Cup final win over Wexford.
The Tribesmen triumphed by six points in Enniscorthy, despite playing the entire second half with 13 men following the dismissals of Padraic Mannion and Jarleth Mannion.
"You have to be really happy with the performance, particularly the workmanlike performance of the lads," the Galway manager told the Irish Independent.
"The young fellas that came in stood up really well. We were reduced to 13 for the second half and it was a massive challenge and in fairness to our boys they stuck to the task, got some great scores and saw the game out."
He added: "We wanted to give as many players as possible a game in this competition. We're very pleased with the two games (against Dublin and Wexford) and we can now look forward to the league."
