The standoff between Mayo GAA and Tim O'Leary has taken another twist after the millionaire benefactor confirmed he is taking legal action against the county board.

The Mayo International Supporters Foundation chairman and founder tweeted last night that he has issued High Court proceedings against Mayo GAA seeking the return of a €150,000 donation and damages.

The Bahamas-based market trader said the donation was given on the condition it would be used solely to benefit the county's senior football team, and claims that condition was not honoured by the county board. Mayo GAA has also threatened legal action against O'Leary.

The row comes after the Foundation said they were withholding €250,000 raised at a gala dinner in New York last May, adding that they would not proceed with the funding until "appropriate governance structures" were put in place.
