McManus not taking Cavan for granted

Conor McManus doesn't expect Cavan's relegation from Division 1 of the Allianz League to make Monaghan's task any easier tomorrow evening.

The Farney County came within a kick of a ball of reaching last year's All-Ireland final and also beat Cavan in this year's Allianz League, but sharpshooter McManus knows they're in for a tough test at Kingspan Breffni.

“The rivalry between Cavan and Monaghan goes way back and as far as I can remember it was always a game that stood out for both sets of supporters,” the Clontibret man told the Irish News.

“It's a game that we are always looking forward to and is a great contest to kick-start the Ulster championship. Breffni Park is a very tough place to get a result, particularly in the championship, and we are going to have to be at our best if we are to come out on top.

“They may have been relegated from Division 1, but if anything that will make them more focussed and more dangerous. We began the league with a fine win over Dublin, but then we had a few games were we didn't perform overly well and still could have got something out of them.

“There was a couple of very poor performances mixed into the middle of that as well so I suppose if the league taught us anything it taught us that we have a lot of work to do going into the Championship.”
